Track 1
Rock Hopper Penguin

Music and Lyrics by Johnette Downing
Copyright 2004 Johnette Downing

It’s sunny and cool just the way I like
I like to rock on a Friday night
Because I’m a rock hopper, yes I’m a rock hopper penguin
I’m a rock hopper penguin and I’m ready to hop

The band was jumpin’ they were very cool
Smooth as ice on a frozen pool
Because I’m a rock hopper, yes I’m a rock hopper penguin
I’m a rock hopper penguin and I’m ready to hop. Let’s hop!

I’m all dressed up and I’m ready to go
Let’s leap on over to the water shore
Because I’m a rock hopper, yes I’m a rock hopper penguin
I’m a rock hopper penguin and I’m ready to hop

My hair is hot, an electric surge
Dance with me if you’ve got the urge
Because I’m a rock hopper, yes I’m a rock hopper
I’m a rock hopper penguin and I’m ready to hop. Let’s hop!

You can slide, you dive, you can do a dip
You can swim, you can splash or do a flip
But I’m a rock hopper, yes I’m a rock hopper
I’m a rock hopper penguin and I’m ready to hop.

Track 3
Amphibians

Music and Lyrics by Johnette Downing
Copyright 2004 Johnette Downing

Have you ever seen a frog?
Sitting in a bog
He’s a carnivore
His singing you’ll adore

He’s an amphibian
He drinks through his skin (slurps)
Frogs sing a chorus (ooo, ooo, ooo)
His skin is porous
He’s an amphibian

Have you ever seen a newt?
You know he’s cute
In water or land
He stays moist when he can

How about a salamander?
You know he’s fine
Skin smooth as a rail
From his head to his tail

Track 4
Clamshell Clap

Music and Lyrics by Johnette Downing
Copyright 2004 Johnette Downing

Clams sit on the ocean floor
Clapping their shells, clap, clap, clap
Open and shut, open and shut, open and shut
They go clap, clap, clap.

Clam up (clap, clap), clam down (clap, clap)
Clapping clamshells all around
Clam up (clap, clap), clam down (clap, clap)
Clapping clamshells all around

Clap along to the tune
Clapping clamshells
From morn to noon
Open and shut, open and shut, open and shut
They go clap, clap, clap.

Clap once (clap), clap twice (clap, clap)
Clapping clamshells are very nice
Clap once (clap), clap twice (clap, clap)
Clapping clamshells are very nice

Track 5
The Circle of Life

Traditional Song with Lyrics Adapted by Johnette Downing
Copyright 2004 Johnette Downing

There is a sea (echo)
A deep blue sea (echo)
The finest sea (echo)
That you ever did see (echo)
And the circle of life goes around and around (move arms in a circle)
And the circle of life goes around

And in that sea (echo)
There are some plants (echo)
The finest plants (echo)
That you ever did see (echo)
Oh, the plants in the sea
And the circle of life goes around and around
And the circle of life goes around

And near those plants (echo)
There are some krill (echo)
The finest krill (echo)
That you ever did see (echo)
Oh, the krill need the plants
The plants in the sea

And the circle of life goes around and around
And the circle of life goes around

Fish, squid, seal, whale and plants...

Track 6
L'ecrevisse

Music and Lyrics by Johnette Downing
Copyright 2005 Johnette Downing

Down the Mississippi to Louisiane (dance)

You better go down there whenever you can
I’ll tell you a little secret that the Cajuns know
There’s a many a creatures in the ole bayou
There is one creature that is special to me
You better look real close if you want to see
He lives in the shallow water and the mud
Where the earth is wet and the rivers flood

L’ecrevisse, he’s a little crawfish (make claw motions)
L’ecrevisse, he’s gonna give you a pinch (make a quick snap
motion)
L’ecrevisse, he’s a little mudbug (make claw motions)
Just a little crustacean that the Cajuns love

With his ten legs he can really move
With his fantail he can really groove
He’s a decapod so you better watch out
If you get too close he’ll pinch your snout! OUCH!

Track 7
I Want To Be A Frog Today

Music and Lyrics by Johnette Downing
Copyright 2005 Johnette Downing

I want to be a frog today (echo)
I don’t care how (echo)
I don’t care why (echo)
I want to be a frog (echo)
I could hop all day
And sing my song
I could play in a bog
And sleep on a log

I will wear some sponges for my skin
I’m very absorbent from end to end
I want to be a frog (echo)
I want to be a frog (echo)
Oh me oh my, I’ll give it a try
I want to be a frog (echo)

In the sponges, I wear some straws
I drink through my skin and not my jaws
I’ll wear some goggles for my eyes
To see underwater in the day or night
I’ll wear some gloves to make my hands sticky
Climbing trees can be a little tricky
I’ll wear some slinkies because my legs are strong
I can jump real high; I can jump real long
I’ll wear a party blower for my tongue
Catching bugs is really fun

Track 8
A Sailor Went to Sea, Sea, Sea

Traditional

A sailor went to sea, sea, sea (Pat hands with a partner and salute three times)
To see what he could see, see, see
But all that he could see, see, see
Was the bottom of the deep blue sea, sea, sea

Track 9
Moving Along

Music and Lyrics by Johnette Downing
Copyright 2004 Johnette Downing

Moving along, moving along always moving along (kick feet to the beat)
Moving along, moving along always moving along
Well the hermit crab moves from place to place
Borrowing shells to make a home
He carries his house on his back
And takes it wherever he roams

When his shell gets too tight
He knows exactly what to do
He finds a shell that fits just right
Like a sock in a shoe

Now the hermit crab is kind of shy
He likes to be alone
He’s peachy keen all by himself
Curled up snug in his home

Track 10
Stingray Shuffle

Music and Lyrics by Johnette Downing
Copyright 2004 Johnette Downing

There’s a fun little dance that you should know
When you visit the ocean shore
When you wade in the water so cool
Always remember this simple rule

Shuffle, shuffle, shuffle your feet (Shuffle feet back and forth)
The stingray shuffle is kinda neat
Shuffle, shuffle, slide, slide
(Slide feet to one side)
Then stingrays will move along in stride

There’s another little thing that you should know
Stingrays live on the ocean floor
If you step you might regret
So shuffling your feet is your best bet

Shuffling your feet says, “pardon me”
And stingrays will say, “by all means”
So mind your manners and you’ll be fine
A little kindness works every time

Track 11
Camouflage

Music and Lyrics by Johnette Downing
Copyright 2004 Johnette Downing

Now you see me, now you don’t
First you will and then you won’t
It’s camouflage, camouflage
I look good in my own skin
Camouflage helps me blend in
It’s camouflage, camouflage

It’s a game of hide and seek (Children put hands over eyes)
Close your eyes and do not peek (Children close eyes)
Count to five on one hand (*Adult hides a paper fish on a like
background)
Try to find me if you can (Children open eyes and try to find fish)

I look like my habitat
I disappear just like that
It’s camouflage, camouflage
I use colors to attract
And warn others to stay back
It’s camouflage, camouflage

Track 12
Most Fish Swim

Music and Lyrics by Johnette Downing
Copyright 1996 Johnette Downing

Most fish swim the ordinary way
Flap their fins and steer away
But some fish move another way
They are as different as night and day

The octopus uses jet propulsion (Pulse fingers in and out)
And the crab he walks side to side (Walk side to side)
And the crawfish always seems to walk backwards (Walk
backwards)
The parrotfish flies underwater (Make flying motions)
And the batfish hangs upside down (Hang upside down)
And the flounder lies on the bottom of the ocean (Rest head on hands in sleeping motion)

Track 13
Seahorses

Music and Lyrics by Johnette Downing
Copyright 2003 Johnette Downing

Seahorses rocking in the deep blue sea (Rock back and forth)
Seahorses rocking in the sea
Seahorses rocking in the deep blue sea
Seahorses rocking in the sea
Seahorses floating among the reeds (Gently float around)
Seahorses floating in the reeds
Seahorses floating among the reeds
Seahorses floating in the reeds

Daddy seahorse he carries all the babies (Make baby rocking motion)
Mother seahorse she stays nearby
Baby seahorses they cuddle all together
(Make hugging motion)
In a family (Interlock index fingers and thumbs and move them in a circle)

Seahorses swaying side to side (Gently sway side to side)
Seahorses steering to and fro (Gently rock to and fro)

Track 14
I Went to the Aquarium One Day

Music and Lyrics by Johnette Downing
Copyright 2004 Johnette Downing

I went to the aquarium one day
So many fish came out to play
And if you ask me, I’ll explain
I’ll make it simple although it’s strange
I saw a four eyed butterfly fish (blink, blink)

I saw a cow nose ray (moo, moo)
...Big mouth bass (kissing sound)
...Finger coral (snap, snap)
...Cypress knee (knock, knock)
...Black footed penguin (stamp, stamp)

I went to the aquarium one day
So many fish came out to play
And if you want you too can see
Then you can sing this song for me.

Track 15
Tooth Fairy

Music and Lyrics by Johnette Downing
Copyright 2004 Johnette Downing

I wouldn’t want to be a tooth fairy
Way down under the sea
I wouldn’t want to be a tooth fairy
Sharks would be bothering me
I wouldn’t want to be a tooth fairy
Way down under the sea
Every day, every night I would be busy

Sharks have so many teeth
That is why they like to eat
Biting, tearing and crushing
All kinds of meat
Rows and rows of teeth
A conveyor belt you see
When one falls out, another moves in
It’s too much work for me
Every day the same old thing
Believe me it’s not cheap
Putting quarters under pillows
When most sharks seldom sleep
10,000 teeth lost
But things could be worse
Sharks must be the richest fish
That’s why they have a mermaid’s purse

Track 16
Turtles

Music and Lyrics by Johnette Downing
Copyright 2005 Johnette Downing

Under the ocean blue, I sleep the whole night through
Under the shining moon, twinkling stars
Dolphins and whales go by singing a lullaby
Under the o, under the o, ocean blue

Under the sea, sea, sea, that’s where I fall asleep
Under the shining moon, twinkling stars
Skates and rays swim by, oh how they seem to fly
Under the sea, under the sea, under the sea

Turtles live in warm bodies of water (*Make turtle in sign language)
Turtles live all around the world
Turtles live in warm bodies of water
Turtles live right in my back yard

Under the ole bayou, I hope my dreams come true
Under the shining moon, twinkling stars
Gators and gars go by under the Southern sky
Under the ole, under the ole, ole bayou

*(To make a sea turtle in sign language, hold fingers tightly together, place one hand on top of the other with both palms down, and move thumbs in a swimming motion.)
