Summer Reading Program 2019 was a rocket trip through Louisiana and Massachusetts. I blasted off into the summer tour at Librarypalooza at the Eastbank Regional Library in Metiaire, LA and traveled across Louisiana to the Madison Parish Library, Orleans Parish Library, Natchitoches Parish Libraries, St. Charles Parish Libraries, Webster Parish Libraries, St. James Parish Libraries, and St. Bernard Parish Library, before landing at the Nantucket Atheneum garden for the final concert and ukulele workshop. What I love most about summer reading program concerts and author visits is that I get to interact with children and their families up close and personal in their own libraries. For many communities, this is the only opportunity families have to see live children’s music and visit with a real author and musician. It is a chance for me to bring smiles to the faces of children and to encourage families to read, sing and dance together, the way my family did with me. What is more joyful than that?
Support your local libraries and live music events, and bring the children. Until next summer at a library near you! For summer 2020, I am already booked across Louisiana in Bienville, Iberville, LaSalle and Sabine Parish Libraries!
